Happy February, Nava United has won their contract!
After winning voluntary recognition in March 2022, Nava United members launched into bargaining their very first collective bargaining agreement. And as of last week, a supermajority of Nava United members voted “yes” to ratify this first contract.
This contract brings job security protections, annual 2% wage increases, and more to over 180 workers at Nava, making Nava United the largest recently organized unit of private sector tech workers under contract in the United States. City, state, and federal governments can now hire Nava when they want the quality work of a union shop.
In addition to securing many of the current benefits Nava workers enjoy like unlimited sick leave, the contract provides new benefits like across the board wage increases and just cause protections. This contract follows the lead of other OPEIU tech units, moving to establish certain protections as the new standard for unionized tech workers, including: no intrusive monitoring, limiting the use of contracted and temporary workers in favor of full-time employees, and transparency around compensation and promotions.
We are so proud of the Navanauts for this huge milestone, and we can’t wait to see what ripple effect this contract has across civic tech.
