Tech 1010 Newsletter - Issue 41
Happy May,
This graduation season, we’re celebrating all of the newly activated students bringing energy to the labor movement and other social movements. If you missed it, student power is on the rise! In the last year and a half, resident assistants at 12 private colleges and universities have formed unions with OPEIU (read more about it in Teen Vogue). Every time students unite and advocate for their rights on campus, we know they are not only improving their own educational experience but also paving the way for positive change for future students.
We are excited to see students demonstrate their understanding that strength lies in unity. In the face of societal challenges—whether it's threats to reproductive rights, assaults on LGBTQ+ rights, stagnant gun reform, or the persistent funding of law enforcement despite community concerns—we must harness and support the transformative potential of organized student activism. Students have historically been at the forefront of social progress. When we organize, we win.
As we witness global injustices, such as the ongoing crisis in Gaza, it's imperative that unions stand in solidarity with marginalized communities worldwide. By amplifying the voices of those who are oppressed and advocating for justice, we contribute to a more equitable world. Let's use our platforms to speak out and support those fighting for their rights, wherever they may be. When we stand together, our impact is undeniable.
Yours in solidarity,
Danielle, Mary, and RV
